Solar system and 20-kWh battery
Design a plan for the cottage owner to achieve energy independence that includes net metering and 20 kWh of battery power to support critical loads in the event of an outage.
| Project Details | |
|---|---|
| Type of home | Single-story cottage |
| Square footage | 1,750 sq. ft. |
| Service entrance | 200 amp |
| Heating | Electric |
| Water heater | Electric |
| Water supply | Well and pump |
| Time needed for installation | 2 to 3 weeks |
| Budget (investment) | $55,000 |
| Challenges and accomplishments | The main challenge for this project was to maximize sunshine hours. Since the cottage is located in the woods, we had to bring in a tree faller in order to clear some foliage and optimize solar panel usage. The customer’s critical loads are now powered fully and independently by the system. |
| Equipment installed | - 24 400-w solar panels - 2 6-kW hybrid inverters - 2 10-kWh batteries |
